Orthopedic Follow-Up After an ER Visit

If your emergency or urgent care team told you to see an orthopedic specialist, here's how to find one near you and get in touch.

Find a Surgeon

Follow your discharge instructions first

Your discharge paperwork is written for your specific injury. Follow it closely, including any timeframe for follow-up, splint or brace care, and warning signs. If your symptoms get worse or you're unsure what to do, contact the care team that treated you. In an emergency, call 911.

Find a specialist for your injury

Your paperwork may name the injured area (for example, wrist, ankle or shoulder). Use it to choose a specialty in the Ortho Compass surgeon directory, then search near where you live.

  • Search by location and specialty. No account needed.
  • Review clinic and provider details, including availability the clinic has reported.
  • Check insurance details where the clinic has shared them.

Contact the office directly

Ortho Compass doesn't schedule appointments or send referrals. Call the office, explain you were seen in the emergency department or urgent care, and mention the follow-up timeframe in your instructions. Have your discharge paperwork, any imaging reports and your insurance card ready.

Already have X-rays?

If you'd like surgeons to review your imaging, you can use the separate surgeon matching service.
